Cleaning Out My Film Rentals. #4 Motherless Brooklyn. Paragraph Review.

Edward Norton directs and stars as a private eye with terzets investigating his bosses murder in 1950s New York in this adaptation of the Jonathan Lethem novel.  The film has a strong supporting cast (Gugu Mbatha-Raw  ,Bruce Willis, Bobby Cannavale, Alec Baldwin and Willem Dafoe among others) but despite Norton delivering a really strong central performance the film has the feel of a mid-tier HBO pilot that goes on far too long at 144 minutes the feels like it was shot on set that had been left over from Marvel’s Agent Carter. Worth looking at if you are a fan of the genre but despite its clear ambition it offers nothing new.
